UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX LIBRARY Ref: 893 DEPUTY ARCHIVIST £19,460 - £21,640/£22,507 - £29,128 Fixed term for 6 months (maternity cover) The University of Sussex Library offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience for a six month period (from mid-May 2005) working with the University’s acclaimed archival, manuscript and rare book collections (including the Mass-Observation Archive, the Rudyard Kipling papers and collections relating to Virginia Woolf). The successful candidate will provide cover during the maternity leave of the Deputy Archivist and will act as deputy to the Head of Special Collections, performing the full range of archival duties, including managing the service on a day-to-day basis and taking responsibility for a small staff team. Although this is only a fixed term contract, this would be a chance for a recently qualified archivist or librarian to gain staff management experience and to work in a busy, lively and well-used collection (see www.sussex.ac.uk/library/speccoll). The successful candidate must have a postgraduate qualification in library, information science or archive management plus at least six months’ experience in archival or library work.
