> The new University Library at the University of Lincoln is housed in the refurbished Great Central Warehouse, built in 1907 and described by the local council as a > '> spectacular survivor> '>  from the 1900s. The building> '> s historical character has been retained with the original beams and brickwork left exposed. The 2004 renovation, costing over £5 million, represents phase one of a two-phase project.

> This half-day event will cover the experience of designing and developing a new University Library and also the promotion and publicity of academic libraries. 
> 
> The event will start with a tour of the new University Library. Then the first speaker, Adrian Wheal, Director of Learning and Information Services at the University of Lincoln, will provide the client> '> s perspective, followed by the architect> '> s perspective from Nigel Stevenson, University Architect. Linda Smith, Chair of CILIP Publicity and Promotions Group, will talk about how important publicity and promotion is for academic libraries. Nick Taylor, Principal Lecturer in Marketing, University of Lincoln, will give an academic perspective on marketing academic libraries. Finally, Lys Ann Bale (Senior Academic Librarian) and Lesley Thompson (Academic Subject Librarian) will discuss the marketing and promotion of the new University Library.

> Closing date for bookings: 12 January 2005. Event fees include refreshments mid-event (but not lunch). The event will be held in the seminar room on level 1 of the University Library, University of Lincoln. There is full disabled access to the building.

> The University is located in the centre of Lincoln, close to the main roads. It is a 5 minute walk to the rail and bus stations. Public car parks are located a few minutes walk away.
