The South Western Regional Library System (SWRLS) Operational
Interlending Business Unit, which took over from the former Regional
Office, has now closed. This is largely due to low levels of demand for
centralised ILL functions in the region. Please be assured, though, that
SWRLS as an organisation continues to operate.
This has several consequences for the wider ILL community:
* Several catalogues are known to list SWRLS (QW/) as a location for
items. These are in fact references to headings in the SWRLS sheaf
catalogues. As SWRLS is about to dispose of these catalogues,
references to SWRLS as a location should now be ignored.
* SWRLS no longer has any staff to deal with requests for locational
information, so please do not send any.
* SWRLS no longer has a persistent set of contact details. The
Bristol Central Library address, along with the phone and fax
number, can no longer be used to contact SWRLS. In addition, the
@swrls.org.uk e-mail addresses will cease functioning shortly. For
up-to-date contact details for SWRLS, please refer to the website
at http://www.swrls.org.uk/.
As I have said, the closure of the Operational Interlending Business
Unit does not affect the ongoing strategic and co-operative roles of
SWRLS, but merely signals the end of SWRLS' direct, centralised
involvement with the operational aspects of interlending.
