I recently posted a query to lis-link querying what libraries were doing
with large reference book collections. I received four replies and the
common themes in these responses were:

  a.. Reduction of large reference collections to small quick reference
collection
  b.. Move to electronic sources as alternatives
  c.. Limited adverse responses from users
  d.. Significant quantities of reference material being shelved with
general lending material
