Hitting the Headlines training day (or how to read a newspaper) On
Thursday 21st April 2005 10.00 - 3.30 At the Centre for Reviews and
Dissemination, University of York

Most days, newspapers carry reports about health care, including stories
of effectiveness of new treatments or diagnostic tests. Such stories can
create expectations or anxieties in patients and pressure for health
professionals. It is important therefore to know the facts behind the
headlines.

In collaboration with the National electronic Library for Health, CRD is
holding a training day for health librarians that will cover how to
assess the reliability of newspaper stories, how to locate the research
behind the headlines and how to find critical appraisal tools to assess
the quality of the research.

The seminar is free, places will be allocated on a first come first
served basis.
