**Apologies for cross posting** News from UKeiG: [Dated: 8th day of April 2005]: Next Meeting: Finding Pharmaceutical Information - 27th April 2005 The development and marketing for a new medicine is long, complex and highly information-intensive. There is a wealth of information on pharmaceuticals, whether in development or on the market, both freely available and subscription-based. This workshop will identify key sources of information relating to the various stages of development and also information available on current medicines on the market. The importance of evaluating the quality of the sources of information will be emphasised and searching for information from a patient's point of view will also be considered. The focus will be on web-based sources of information but conventional print sources and related associations or organisations that provide information will also be identified. The course is aimed at information professionals in higher education, the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry. It will also be of value to publishers, pharmacists and others who provide services to healthcare sector. Course content: * the drug development process - key stages, time-scales, costs and players * major sources of R&D information * secondary sources - consolidators, analysers and digesters * business information * information for the public - patients, healthcare professionals and shareholders The course presenter Shaida Dorabjee has been involved in information work for over 25 years, and spent many years as an information manager in the pharmaceutical industry, responsible for a variety of library and information functions covering research and development, business and marketing information. She has also worked for a research organisation undertaking desk research into R&D management in the pharmaceutical industry. Shaida now works as a consultant specialising in information management and training, particularly in pharmaceutical and healthcare information and has carried out assignments in the industry as well as the NHS.
