Dear all

thanks very much to everyone who responded to my request to how
institutions' Learning and Information Services support international
students. This has been really helpful.

A very brief summary of responses follows:

9 replies: None of the respondents had full time responsibility for
international students, but for some it was a formal part of their role.
Support was mainly through
    * Liaison with International Office (6) through induction, tours (3),
information sent out to students before they arrive. Also liaison with
Student Association (1)
    * Skills sessions usually provided by subject specialists but some
during orientation (2)
    * Materials: glossary of 'library' vocabulary (2), web pages - or plans
for web pages (3)
    * Liaison point for international students at International Forum (1)
    * Display for International Students Day (1) international students
display (1)
    * Involvement with international clubs (2)
    * Support for students at partner institutions overseas (3) involving
technical issues, training local staff and evaluating resources, licensing
issues
    * Cultural awareness training sessions for staff (3)
    * Statistics on international students circulated to staff (1)
