The new ALPSP research report 'Online Submission and Peer Review Systems' by Mark Ware has just become available. It provides a completely up-to-date review of currently available systems and also includes the findings of three specially commissioned ALPSP surveys of Authors and Referees, Editors and Publishers, carried out recently.

It gives an objective account of the current state of play and provides a comprehensive overview of all the available online systems, describing their features and offering a framework for analysing and choosing between them.

The first survey looks in detail at authors' and referees' experiences and perceptions of using online systems, and explores the impacts of their behaviour.

The second survey of editors similarly reviews experiences and perceptions, but also looks at the impact on their journals, including changes in submission volumes and geographical spread, quality, refereeing and administration times, and workflow.

The final survey of publishers focuses on their experiences of choosing a system, planning and implementing its introduction, and the subsequent impacts on the journal.

The report will be of particular interest to all those involved in peer review. It will be especially valuable to publishers, learned societies and journal editors, whether they are already using online peer review systems, or are considering their introduction for the first time.

Copies of the report are being produced in both the UK and US, and can be ordered from the ALPSP website , which includes the option to purchase at special member rates. Alternatively copies can also be obtained from your usual book trade supplier or through Amazon.
