Solution (short form)    : gdrb08.cern.ch is OK again.
Solution (long form)     : The problem was that the /etc/hosts listed gdrb08 gdrb08.cern.ch, rather
than the fqdn first followed by the alias. 
I also noticed that the entry in /etc/hosts on gdrb07, gdrb09, gdrb10,
gdrb11 were wrong (they listed lxbXXXX.cern.ch, so I changed them)
