It is not exactly that bug that is responsible for the mess;
for details see my addition to that bug report, though.

I certainly claim the bug is RedHat's, and I would like to avoid having
to code possibly non-trivial workarounds for the various gridftpd that
are used in LCG-2.

Which program would generate such messages on the WNs?
A Classic SE obviously has them too, as will a DPM SE.
