Dear Colleagues,

Reuters (26 March) and the Hindustan Times (25 March 2005) online (http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1295345,0008.htm) are reporting that China and India are near an agreement on "political parameters and guiding principles" for resolving their land boundary disputes.  The agreement is to be signed during Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India, beginning on 9 April.  Presumably, the text is being finalized by the Sino-Indian Joint Working Group that is meeting in Beijing during 30-31 March.  The countries dispute about 125,000 sq km of territory, including the Aksai Chin, most of the Arunachal Pradesh, and smaller pockets along the frontier.

Regards,
Dan Dzurek
