VACANCY Geographical Information System Analysis /Risk Modelling/Data Management/Image Processing We need someone to assist with a new project extending and developing earlier studies of bovine tuberculosis risk mapping in the UK, funded by DEFRA. For details of previous work see: http://ergodd.zoo.ox.ac.uk/download/reports/ergobtbrep.zip or Gilbert et al, Nature 435, 491-496 (26 May 2005) | doi: 10.1038/nature03548. Initially, we are looking for someone to immerse themselves in running a series of existing analysis routines to meet contractual deadlines, so there will, in the first instance, be only limited potential for original research and academic publication. The job will also entail various other supporting activities -including GIS data archive construction for East Africa, Europe and possibly Asia, and also potentially contributing to the development of new image processing techniques in close collaboration with the internationally recognised TALA Research Group in the Department of Zoology at Oxford University. Skills required: substantial data analysis/management and GIS experience, with a working knowledge of SPSS, ArcView, ERDAS and Idrisi. Familiarity with C++ or R would also be an advantage. The job will be for a probationary 9 months, starting Jan/Feb 2006, but may be extended to two years, if all goes well. Based in the Zoology Department at Oxford, but up to two or three days a week (or equivalent) broadband capacity teleworking acceptable. Salary package £20K to £27K per annum, depending on experience and capability.
