GIS Manager
£33, 168 - £36, 402 p.a.

You will be responsible for managing the GIS team and the service it
provides. You will have responsibility for defining the strategic and
tactical development of GIS in support of the Council’s overall Information
Systems strategies. The post holder will have direct management
responsibility for permanent staff and will also be expected to manage
temporary project-based staff, providing a quality cost-effective service
designed to meet the Councils’ needs. You will be responsible for ensuring
that all geographic services are available for use in-line with any Service
Level Agreements (SLAs) that exist.

You will be responsible for staff performance objectives, training needs,
and implementing overall operational policy for the team. You will also
have direct responsibility for all projects and should therefore have a
professional qualification in project management, such as PRINCE2, and
demonstrable experience of managing projects.

You will hold a degree in a relevant discipline, have a minimum of five
years experience of managing a GIS team or relevant service, including
support and development, within a large organisation and ideally have
experience of working in a Local Authority.

North Somerset Council’s Corporate GIS Service is a core information source
to staff and the general public. There are three vacancies available at
different levels to join an exciting team delivering Council wide GIS
services using MapInfo, Internet mapping applications and managing the
Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG).

Location
The Council Offices are located in Weston-super-Mare, which is famed for
its beach, and is the main town in North Somerset which stretches from the
banks of the Severn Estuary in the north, to the Mendip hills in the south.
The town is a mixture of old charm and modern technology, full of small
businesses geared towards tourism along with hotels, guest houses and a
great variety of shops.
