GEM/SMC GRASS ROOTS
PROJECT
We are pleased to announce that the Scottish Museums
Council (SMC) and the Group for Education in Museums (GEM) have agreed to work
in partnership on a project to increase and enhance the learning services their
museum and gallery members offer. The chief objective of Grass Roots is
to achieve a lasting legacy of material and intellectual resources to support
ongoing, confident and continually-improving access and learning provision in
Scottish museums and galleries. This legacy will be of ongoing value and use to
staff and volunteers implementing SMC and GEM access and learning initiatives.
The project is funded by SMC and managed by GEM with the support of GEM
Scotland.
The post of Education Officer is the centrepiece of
the Grass Roots project and is being advertised from today.
We
are seeking a highly motivated, experienced education officer to provide
practical lifelong learning support to Scotland's non-national museums and
galleries.
The Education Officer will be employed by GEM on a 12-month
contract with an annual salary of £22,000
Based in Scotland, the
Grass Roots Education Officer's responsibilities include: developing
learning resources, museum education training for museum staff, a mentoring
programme, and consolidating access and learning networks.
Essential:
educated to degree level; at least three years experience in museum/gallery
education, project management, learning resource development, and education
training delivery; understanding of social justice and lifelong learning
agendas; high-order planning, research, analytical, organisational, and
communication skills; willing and able to travel throughout Scotland; able to
work independently from home.
