Vacancy for Learning Programmes Manager, Learning, St Pancras

British Library Learning aims to inspire young people to become creative researchers through source-based learning and by thinking about big ideas and cultural exchange. The team delivers workshops, online resources and regional projects. It also supports programmes for the wider public, for example, by applying Inspiring Learning for All. The purpose of this key post is to develop the innovative learning methodology and to model, evaluate and promote it through activities mainly onsite at St Pancras. These include workshops, activity kits and creative research projects for young people in and out of school. The activities make use of images, texts and sounds in the form of digital sources and handling objects, the Treasures Gallery, exhibitions, public art and the environment in and around the Library.

 

You will work alongside the current post holder, to share her responsibilities to:

  • Plan, organise and oversee delivery of workshops, teacher training sessions, summer schools and ‘young creative researcher’ projects
  • Ensure that all learning groups have a high-quality experience onsite and in real-world activities
  • Help to develop St Pancras as an exciting, innovative place for young people to visit
  • Reach targets for participation and particularly to increase participation by disadvantaged and inner-city groups
  • Manage and develop a team of freelancers, who are mainly artists
  • Maintain and develop the spaces, facilities and materials for learning onsite
  • Manage a programme budget
  • As a team member, contribute to the planning and development of the overall Learning programme, including regional & online projects

 

You will have:

 

  • Substantial experience in museum and gallery education, especially in working with artists
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and classroom teaching, especially in urban schools
  • Interpersonal, negotiating skills
  • Event and project management skills
  • An interest in diverse cultures
  • An interest in research and thinking skills
  • Ability to write reports, resources and proposals

 

Working days are likely to be Monday and Thursday, plus a half day on Wednesday to coincide with a weekly team meeting and to plan with current post holder. For more details of the programme see www.bl.uk/learning
