Background British postal communications helped to shape the modern world. The British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) illuminates the lives of people in the Post Office, the messages carried by Royal Mail and the history we all share. The BPMA was constituted as a charity in 2004 to be the public face of The Postal Heritage Trust, The Postal Heritage Collections Trust and responsible for the overall management of Postal Heritage Services Limited, the trading company. There are currently seven trustees meeting five times each year. The BPMA has ambitious plans that include increasing its outreach into the community through schools and local projects in addition to expanding its trading capacity. To facilitate these plans three more trustees are needed with relevant specialist skills in finance, trading or outreach to widen the expertise of the Trustee Board. Experience · Familiar with education and community outreach programmes · A collaborative team player Knowledge and skills · Interested in heritage or archives · Able to contribute strategically across a wide range of issues · Commercially and financially astute · Available to attend meetings in London Job Description · To be aware of and to conform to the responsibilities of a charitable trustee and, of a director of a company limited by guarantee. · To ensure that the BPMA pursues its charitable and corporate objectives as set out in its constitution, complying with charity law, company law and other relevant legislation and regulations. · To attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and, as appropriate, of its Committees, contributing to its role in setting the strategic direction of The BPMA, defining overall policy, setting targets and monitoring performance; ensuring that its decisions are implemented and that the work is consistent with the aims of the organisation. · To ensure that the BPMA takes appropriate steps to secure necessary resources, material and human; that such resources are managed with due probity and dedicated exclusively to The BPMA’s charitable and corporate objects. · To exercise oversight of the good financial and general management of the BPMA, promoting good relationships between Trustees, the Chief Executive and staff · To ensure that independent professional advice is taken by The BPMA when necessary. · To sit on ad hoc panels, and attend other meetings for particular purposes, by invitation of the Board or its Chair. · To abide by The BPMA’s guidelines for trustees, to safeguard its good name, reputation and values and to represent it in the public arena as appropriate.
