Freelance opportunity Creating new school/teacher materials for a new interactive science and technology gallery in the Royal Museum, National Museums of Scotland The National Museums of Scotland is seeking an freelance consultant to develop school/teacher materials for a new interactive science and technology gallery which opens in the Royal Museum in Edinburgh in March 2006. The gallery will be a permanent interactive science and technology gallery, based around key iconic objects from the NMS collections. The target audience for the gallery is children aged 5 to 14, both within school groups and as part of family groups. NMS is seeking an external consultant to develop teachers/school materials to support the gallery. The resources will consist of practical resources to assist teachers/group leaders/ pupils working in the gallery and cater for different age groups/ability levels eg: P3 - P5/ P6 - P7/ S1-S2. This will involve devising ne materials for both teachers and pupils and also adapting existing information materials for inclusion. The consultant will be required to demonstrate: * an excellent track record in the development of science and technology themed resources for primary and lower secondary pupils and their teachers * comprehensive understanding of the primary and lover secondary science curricula within Scottish schools * a familiarity with the Renfrewshire Science guidelines which many LEAs (including Edinburgh area) use as basis for their primary science curriculum planning and delivery * an understanding of the potential of museum objects and interactive exhibits to support learning and teaching We are seeking to appoint a consultant by 30 July.
