The Global Commission on International Migration is hoping to organize a
one-day workshop that will look at diaspora populations from a comparative
perspective, using Afghans and Somalis as the principal case studies. We
have yet to work out a detailed agenda, but the workshop would probably
address issues such as migration routes and mechanisms (especially forms of
irregular migration), migrant remittances, migrant livelihoods, return
migration and the impact of diasporas on the culture, society and economy of
the country of origin. Please let me know if you are interested and feel
free to forward this message to others you know who are working in this
field. With best regards.
