Dear all

Some time ago it was brought to our attention that users of the HBSMR software would like the British Museums Materials Thesaurus incorporated into HBSMR.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether we should incorporate it or whether we should develop a new materials thesaurus which includes terms from the EH Building Materials thesaurus and the BM thesaurus.

Having recently revisited the BM I think it is highly specific to the BMs own collection and probably goes into too much detail for the wider HER community – I can’t envisage many HERs having objects made from Bird of Paradise Feathers in their collection although Feathers may be appropriate.

I’d be interested in your views.
