AQUATIC MAMMALS: A NEW PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR AQUATIC MAMMALS AND THE EUROPEAN CETACEAN SOCIETY Aquatic Mammals is the oldest peer-reviewed journal publishing papers on marine mammal science. Over the last two years, the European Cetacean Society (ECS) and the European Association for Aquatic Mammals (EAAM) have discussed joining resources to support the journal. At their respective annual meetings last spring, both societies unanimously approved the partnership. The value of this partnership is to emphasize research conducted by European marine mammalogists, expand the topics of publication to include field and laboratory studies, increase participation by European scientists in the review of articles for the journal, and provide a larger membership base to support expansion of the journal. Jeanette Thomas will serve as the Managing Editor and Peter Evans will serve as Co-editor. Both have served as Editors for several years in their respective societies. They asked a broad cross section of scientists to participate in the Editorial Board and are pleased to announce these members: Mats Amundin, Ian Boyd, Arne Bjorge, Jonathan Gordon, Phil Hammond, Manuel Garcia Hartmann, Rus Hoelzel, Christina Lockyer, Lee Miller, Paul Nachtigall, Giuseppe Notarbartolo di Sciara, Simone Panigada, Toni Raga, Manuel dos Santos, Ursula Siebert, and Ben Wilson. Approximately half are from each society. This partnership officially begins in 2006 when the number of issues published per year will increase to four. The journal is available as a printed copy, CD, or online version through IngentaConnect. Back issues of the journal are available in printed or CD versions. Aquatic Mammals will have a booth at the Society for Marine Mammalogy conference in San Diego staffed by the Editors and Editorial Board members. Please stop by and discuss possible manuscript submissions, subscribe to the journal, or offer to serve as a reviewer.
