Dear Colleagues
E -Tutor of the Year 2005
The closing date for the 2005 competition is approaching and entries are encouraged from all who have or are using ICT tools in an innovative way in higher education in this academic year.
The 2005 Competition was launched by Paul Ramsden, CEO of the Higher Education Academy at the ALT-C conference in September 2004 and the closing date for entries is 1 July.
A first prize of £1000 is awarded by the Times Higher Education Supplement and two runners up are awarded £250 in book tokens by the Higher Education Academy. In addition the Association for Learning Technology provide free entry to their conference in the autumn to the winners and runners-up for the presentation of the awards.
The rules for the competition are simple:
The innovation/materials/student learning tools must have been delivered in whole or part using ICT in the year 2004/5.
The entry must relate to a higher education course whether delivered in HE or FE
The competition is open to any member of staff involved in teaching and/or supporting student learning (not only academic staff)
        Team entries are welcome
The winner of the competition and runners-up must agree to take part in an event run by the Higher Education Academy or ALT to present their winning entries, and must agree to relevant publicity appearing in the Times Higher Educational Supplement.
and the Judging criteria, which all carry equal weighting, are equally easy:
        Extent of innovative practice.
Pedagogic elements of the design, e.g. reference to learning outcomes, use of student feedback and evidence of reflection and influence on future practice.
Tutor support for the materials - extent of tutor-student and student-student interaction.
        Levels of interactivity.
Flexibility of design to meet student needs.
Accessibility - evidence of how this issue has been considered and incorporated into the design of materials.
Look and feel of the materials - will they motivate students?
Has a case been made for the use of online materials over other forms of delivery?

Please prepare an entry yourself or encourage your friends and colleagues.
