Hi

Obviously, we need to wait and see on the Dolphin issue but it will be interesting to see what people think about the software when they have tried it.  Speculating on the back of Dolphin's pre-release marketing would be a bit pointless. Cost may be an issue, too.  It is helpful to have others entering the arena with this type of software though - competition should benefit the users.

I think it is very hard to compare like with like on these occasions,
thinking of how they are to be used and the skills of the user etc etc.

If one has to compare I would say a better way would be to look at Claro
Software products http://www.clarosoftware.com/. - the one that is like Read
and Write Gold is ClaroRead Plus
http://www.emptech.info/product_details.php?ID=2006 but it does not contain
some of the elements found in TextHelp Read and Write Gold, although it is
cheaper and when comparing the Dolphin products they are also available as
separate applications such as Scan2Read, WordRead etc I hope to be able to
illustrate the differences on EmpTech in a short while.

Dear All,
Does anyone know how this is better, if at all, than Read & Write Gold?

Celia

Dear All

Following on from the discussion regarding the channel 4 program, "The
Myth of Dyslexia," this was an interesting view, as being dyslexic
myself I know to well that the word "Dyslexia" is just a word, a label,
of which us British insist on using to help feel secure in trying to
understand something.

Therefore the program could not deny the fact that there is a problem
but we just can never be sure exactly what it is. However, there are
still those who see it as lazyness or lack of intelligence because they
do not understand. Being a uni student myself, there is obviously a
learning support service but the facilities are limited, I have been
looking for something at a reasonable price to purchase to assist with
note taking and reading, as this is the where I find it hard to process
all the information or jot down quickly enough....

Our university had a visit from Dolphin Computer Access, regarding
their new software for people with reading and writing difficulties.
I was extremely impressed with "Producer" which was able to create
audio books at a click of a button, as well as being able to transfer
this onto an MP3 player. I was most impressed at how simple and
practicle it was!

I suggested that all teachers have this program and use it to send info
and work to students. For those with difficulty like myself its
brilliant and just makes the process quick and easy for all students,
no matter what their shape or size!
