It provides examples of a variety of approaches which have been used previously by funded disability projects. These approaches have helped to ensure that the gains made during the lifetime of the innovation or project have not been lost to the sector or overlooked in future developments. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Copyright: This briefing highlights disability-related IPR and copyright issues that are relevant to Further Education and Higher Education (FE and HE). It focuses on learning, teaching and support for disabled students and the implications that providing accessible materials for disabled students may have in relation to copyright law. Checklists launched in July 2005 Research: Based on the work of the HEFCE funded 'Premia' project, this checklist highlights issues around research activities within institutions and asks how they can be made accessible for disabled research students. Issues covered include pre-entry considerations, research supervision and accessibility of the research environment (eg laboratories). Senior Management: This checklist contains resources and information to support the consideration of disabled students in relation to planning and strategy. It will be useful for Senior Management Teams, Governing Bodies, Chairs of key institutional committees and Directors of services. External Examining - Institutional Focus: This checklist has been designed to pose questions relating to disability issues within the external examining function in higher education. The focus is on institutional practices which will enable 'internal facing' review and reflection by staff and raise awareness of key issues to be addressed in institutional systems and procedures. Central Services Checklist: A self review tool designed to assist staff with responsibility for providing central services to deliver inclusive provision for disabled students. The checklist focuses on provision organised centrally by institutions to support students whilst studying in higher education including: counselling, careers, chaplaincy, crèche, health, advice, sports and learning support.
