I have a member of staff who is interested in this, but who is wondering
whether anyone who has already attended the training could tell us of
their experiences, and what amount of time commitment is involved (i.e.
how many trips to Bristol)?

Many thanks

alice

PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER TRAINING - March-December 2005

The Centre for Access and Communication Studies at the University of
Bristol will be running another of its highly successful Personal
Support
Worker in Employment training programmes, from March-December 2005.

This programme is funded by the European Social Fund and for applicants
who
fulfil the funding criteria, there will be no course fee, and reasonable
travel, overnight accommodation and dependent or childcare costs will be
refunded.

The programme provides a modular training package for Personal Support
Workers / Personal Assistants who already work with disabled people in
education, employment and other spheres, or those who wish to work in
this
area. It introduces and consolidates the knowledge and skills required
to
work as a PSW, and aims to enable the student to perform these services
in
an informed and professional manner.

The course includes modules in: Disability Equality, Deaf Awareness and
Communication Tactics, Working with Visually Impaired People,
Notetaking,
Deafblind Support Work, Working with People with Learning Difficulties,
Personal Assistance Training and Working with People with Autistic
Spectrum
Disorder.

Please pass this information on to anyone you think may be interested.
