Research Assistant - Neurodiversity in Higher Education

(0.2 post, fixed term contract for 3 years)

£2,577 - £3,520 pro rata to £12,887 - £17,601 per annum

(starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience)

The term 'neurodiversity' encompasses specific learning differences such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, and conditions such as Asperger's Syndrome and Attention Deficit Disorder. Supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England via the Higher Education Academy, this National Teaching Fellowship project aims to create a national resource for staff and students in higher education.

The project will offer information and advice for students and guidance for staff about neurodiversity. It will include multi-media materials and on-line forums. Policy proposals will be developed, and dissemination events such as conferences will be held.

You should have a BA or BSc and some knowledge or awareness of specific learning differences. Initially, this post will be concerned with information-gathering. Facility with internet research will be essential, as will good personal and office organisation skills and an ability to deal with students with a range of learning support needs. Ability to edit digital video material would be an advantage.

The scope of the post may be developed, depending on the post-holder's capability and capacity. It would suit someone enrolled on a post-graduate course (e.g. education or psychology). A dedicated work station is available in the Dyslexia Centre at the Student Learning Advisory Service, Gateway House.

It is anticipated that the start date for the post would be as soon as possible.

For an informal discussion about the post, email National Teaching Fellow Dr David Pollak at [log in to unmask] or telephone 0116 257 7831.
