Subject: Re: Liaison with careers service?

We have increasingly close links as partners in the Student Support
Group of services at Brunel. We also work closely with the Placements
arm of the Careers Service over the needs of disabled students on
placements. Last year the Careers Service here achieved Matrix
accreditation, something we plan our Disability and Dyslexia service to
go for in 2006, are any colleagues in other disability services doing
the same?

With best wishes,

Martin.

We are now part of a new division, Student Life, which includes
Careers. It's too early to say what direction this might take, but no
will doubtless involve closer working. The University is placing much
more emphasis on empoyability and so far we're talking to disabled
students about careers at an earlier stage, emailing them about
placement opportunities, career events etc, have put some info on our
website (http://www.sscs.bham.ac.uk/disability/careers.htm), & are
making links with external organisations eg Blind in Business (who have
been very helpful).

	Happy Holidays!

Hi, I am interested in finding out about how much
liaison HEIs have with the careers service at your institution re:
students with disabilities and progression into the world of work? Any
feedback of any kind on this would be gratefully received.
Best wishes and merry Christmas too!
