On April 12, 2005 the Institute of Netherlands History introduced "The
Correspondence of William of Orange (1533-1584)", the leader of the
Dutch Revolt against Philip II of Spain. Thirteen thousand letters to
and from the Prince of Orange are now available for research on the
Internet. Researchers from the institute collected the correspondence
from nearly 200 archives and libraries in and outside the Netherlands.
The opening of the database was celebrated at the Prinsenhof in Delft,
just near the place where William of Orange was murdered in 1584. The
present Prince of Orange, Crown Prince William-Alexander, executed the
first search operation.
