I am not clear what personal data is submitted to the plagiarism service. If it is just a piece of work with no name attached,  I can't see how it could be personal data. However, if it is personal data consent may be needed (see, for example, AG v Guardian Newspapers (no.2) [1988] All E.R. 545. People seem to have forgotten that the 1998 DP Act is not the only thing that needs to be taken into account when dealing with personal data.
