Fair enough! Still "Emergency Contact" is also self explanatory Carl -----Original Message----- From: This list is for those interested in Data Protection issues [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Tim Trent Sent: 15 July 2005 14:19 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [data-protection] Chris Lewis is correct - it is a SCAM Ah, "Next of Kin". Now that cannot be my wife, for she is related to me by marriage. So is it my mother or my son? They always ask for NoK, and always mean "Emergency Contact" -----Original Message----- From: This list is for those interested in Data Protection issues [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Carl Johnson Sent: 15 July 2005 14:15 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [data-protection] Chris Lewis is correct - it is a SCAM The idea itself isn't bad. Certainly, its done the rounds on the internet but the majority of people are unlikely to know about it. Most modern phones can hold enough characters to enter "Next of Kin" as the contact. ICE could mean anything to the uninitiated. See this link: http://www.eastanglianambulance.com/ Following the disaster in London . . . East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In Case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston. The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc. Lewis Bourne -----Original Message----- From: This list is for those interested in Data Protection issues [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Roland Perry Sent: 15 July 2005 10:56 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [data-protection] Chris Lewis is correct - it is a SCAM In message <[log in to unmask]>, at 10:24:57 on Fri, 15 Jul 2005, Chris Bayliss <[log in to unmask]> writes > >The main indicators that this one was likely to be a hoax were the lack >of any direct or specific reference to the source of the information (a >link back to the Met website for example) and a vague instruction to >pass this on to everyone you know. Yes, I would second that. It's a "hoax" rather than a "scam", and every single instance I've ever seen that asked to be "passed on" was one. If there were ever any real messages of this kind (and they are very rare) they would always include contact details of where to get further information, in some form or other (eg either a website or a callcentre) -- Roland Perry ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ -- No virus found in this incoming message.
