Very easy. When you check in (discretely) with the receptionist they give you a number on a piece of card. The first person in the morning gets number 1, the second number 2, etc. When it's your turn [1] to see the doctor they can call (or display on the screen) the number. You leave the bit of card with the doctor, and they get reused the next day. And in other news: My local Co-op supermarket has tills with little screens by the packing area which show the item and price as they are being scanned. If you have given them a Co-op Dividend Card, it also shows your name. Surely a DP infringement? [1] At the GP's surgery where I saw this working, they called you in numerical order, not in the order of the actual appointments. So if you arrived early you might well be seen early. And if you were a bit late you were seen a bit late, and not turned away - as I've seen happen at some other GPs'. -- Roland Perry ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
