NEWS ARTICLE
Bulgaria and eTEN (11 May 2005)Bulgaria, a European Union candidate country, is now able to fully participate in the eTEN programme. The Memorandum of Understanding between Bulgaria and the European Community covering Bulgaria's participation in the eTEN programme was signed in May 2005 by the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria, Nikolay Vassilev and the Commissioner for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding. Bulgaria will fully participate in the eTEN programme in 2005 and 2006. Neighbouring candidate country Romania has been a full participant in the eTEN programme since 2004 and will continue to fully participate in the programme in 2005 and 2006. Organisations from both countries already successfully participate in projects in IST and other priorities of the Sixth Framework programme.

Opportunities and challenges for European films in the
information society at Cannes 2005 Europe Day (11 May 2005)The Cannes International Film festival opened on 11 May with the screening of a European film, "Lemming" by Dominik Moll, which received support from the MEDIA programme of the European Union. On 17 May, the Festival will welcome the third Europe Day the topic of which is "Europe?s cinema and the Information Society". The EU Culture and Audiovisual Ministers will discuss the effects of new means of distribution for audiovisual works, such as film online and video on demand, together with directors, economic operators ? producers, channel owners, studio heads - and the new ones ?? telecoms businesses. The renowned filmmaker Michael Winterbottom ("In this World", "Welcome to Sarajevo", "Code 46") has agreed to be the guest of honour at this Day.

Next Generation Internet - Demonstrations at Telecom cITy
10 May 2005 - 12 May 2005  Brussels, BelgiumEurolabs is a European project supported by the IST Research programme. The project integrates new networking technologies, applications and services. These components are combined to make up five interconnected testbeds, located in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland. The Eurolabs project organises advanced demonstrations at Telecom cITy, the Belgian ICT fair, including Grid computing and IPv6-compatible applications. Demonstrations will include: BEgrid (see a real Grid in operation), home networking devices (control your house from anywhere)and multimedia streaming to an iPAQ

11 May 2005 - 13 May 2005  Unesco Headquarters, ParisUNESCO and the Club of Rome are co-organizing in Paris a three-day World Conference on Harnessing the Potential of ICT for Capacity Building. 12 World Regions will be connected live via the GDLN network, making a global exchange of experiences possible. The event is directed to the second meeting of the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis in November.
