Yes we've bought the Learning Objects SearchLX tool and have been running that on our development server for several weeks now - and we're very impressed. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Hi Mark,

There is a commercial search tool available on the Building Blocks catalogue, but you'll need Enterprise to use it. You may be able to setup an external search engine and create external links to it, but you'd need building blocks to anything fancy.

http://lucene.apache.org/ Lucene is an open source search facility that could be configured to search Bb content, but it won't be easy.

Subject: Searching inside a Course Site

Hi All

I've been asked whether it is possible to search among content within a site - and whether it is possible to search for strings within items. Although we're on Basic (at the moment) and I suspect that may affect the ability to search, I am, of course aware of the opportunity to add metadata when you add an item in a content area. Maybe I've failed to turn something on, but why allow adding metadata when there is no search facility? Clearly missing something blindingly obvious....
