Dear All,

I'd be grateful to hear from ARLIS members about the impact of the
introduction of self issue systems in art libraries, whether you are a
self contained art library or whether you are a multi-subject library
where art/design is just one subject. I'd be interested to hear from
libraries which have introduced, are planning or just considering the
introduction of such systems.

The Bristol School of Art, Media & Design is the art/design faculty of
the University of the West of England, on a separate campus with its own
specialist library.

UWE Library Service has introduced self issue and other self service
facilities on three of its campuses, with varying levels of take-up. It
is proposed to extend this to other campuses over a period of time,
including the art faculty library as part of its expansion and
development during the next couple of years.

We'd like to know whether art library collections, which include
multimedia, large format, odd shaped/sized material, present any
particular challenges for self issue, whether staffing costs have been
saved, how the service has been promoted and supported, and any other
impacts you can think of.

Many thanks.
