London Disability Network for Archives, Libraries and Museums

Launch Event and Consultation Session

Monday 5th December 2005, 1-5pm

Venue: The Women's Library, 25 Old Castle Street, London E1 7NT

ALM London is working in partnership with Shape (Enabling Access to the Arts) to host a FREE launch event and consultation session for the new regional Disability Network for Archives, Libraries and Museums.

The aim of the Disability Network is to provide a regional forum where archive, library and museum staff, customers, policy-makers and experts in the field of access and inclusion can meet together to discuss ways to improve access to the heritage sector for disabled people.

The launch event will take place on Monday 5th December 2005 at The Women's Library (25 Old Castle Street, London E1 7NT) from 1pm - 5pm.

Places are available for up to 50 guests. You do not need to be a member of the network to attend this FREE event, but places must be booked in advance to help us keep an accurate record of catering and access requirements.

The event will be chaired by Steve Mannix, Chief Executive of Shape (www.shapearts.org.uk/).

A FREE sandwich buffet and light refreshments will be provided for every participant and all attendees will also have an opportunity to:

1. Hear about some useful examples of good practice as regards service provision for disabled people in London's archive, library and museum sector

2. Share personal experiences and observations about accessibility to archive, library and museum buildings, collections, websites, events, exhibitions and other services

3. Learn about how the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) has helped to improve levels of access to archives, libraries and museums in the region

4. Contribute to group discussions about social inclusion, equal opportunities and representation issues for disabled people

5. Engage in group activities with other delegates to help create a short-list of key priorities and actions for the new Disability Network during its first year, to help improve access to archives, libraries and museums for disabled people in London.
