The East Riding Archives is holding an Open Day on Saturday 15th October linked to the national maritime celebration 'SeaBritain 2005'.  The inspiration for this is the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death in action of Admiral Lord Nelson.  The Open Day will include an exhibition of historical records relating to living and working by the sea, shipping and fishing as well as holidays and recreation.  This shows Britain's links with the sea in a local context and illustrates how it has shaped our history and culture. There will also be an opportunity to view a display about the Archives Service new building, the Treasure House, which will open Autumn 2006.

The Open Day will be held between 10.00am and 4.00pm at the East Riding Archives, The Chapel, Lord Roberts Road, Beverley.  Staff will be available to give advice about sources for local and family history in the East Riding.  Please ring 01482 392790 for further information.

I would be grateful if you could draw this event to the attention of any of your users who might be interested.

Many Thanks

Lizzy Baker
