A reminder of this EU scheme, which pays for scientists to make short visits to any of 20 taxonomic centres in Europe (e.g. Kew, Leiden, Vienna etc), and to use facilities (e.g. SEM) at these. It's a great opportunity for archaeobotanists who need to use herbaria, seed collections, and other facilities. It's easy to apply and the next deadline is March 2006. Note that contact has to be made with the host institution before applying. Grants are open to researchers at all levels, including freelancers. Details at: http://www.synthesys.info/access.html Most European countries are eligible, including candidate EU countries. For scientists in the US, the NSF now provides travel grants for similar visits to European facilities - see http://www.cetaf.org/ Mark ********************************* Dr Mark Nesbitt Project Manager, PLANT CULTURES Royal Botanic Gardens Kew Richmond, Surrey TW9 3AE Tel (direct): +44 (0)20 8332 5719 Fax: +44 (0)20 8332 5768 www.plantcultures.org.uk
