A PASSAGEM DO TEMPO

An event to celebrate the life and art of Mario Guimaraes Jnr PhD 1970-2005

Thursday 17th November 6-9PM 2005
Graduate School, Halsbury Building, Brunel University, Uxbridge Campus

Exhibition of Mario's photos, Brazilian music, wine and snacks

As many of you will know, Mario Guimaraes Jnr a former PhD student from Brazil, in the School of Social Sciences and Law at Brunel, died in a tragic road accident in April, just weeks after handing in his thesis. In a ground-breaking study Mario used ethnographic research methods to explore Avatars, or representations of virtual bodies, in cyberspace. Mario's PhD was awarded after his death.

Mario was on the anthropology-matters steering group and helped to redesign our website and the layout of the online journal. It is one of Mario's photos of ageing wood that acts as a banner on the site http://www.anthropologymatters.com/ Mario had been interested in photography since 1994 and won a prize in 2002 for one of his photos in a Brunel Arts Centre competition. Mario was a very active member of the Graduate School. An exhibition of Mario's photographs and an event to celebrate his life will take place in the Graduate School, Halsbury Building, on 17th November 2005 6-9pm. All welcome.
