Genetic Epidemiology: Team Leader

The Institute Of Cancer Research (University of London), Sutton,
Surrey

The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of
London) is a world-class cancer research organisation with HEFCE RAE
ratings of international excellence across all of its research
programmes. In partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust,
we form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to
research that extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology,
through drug discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patient
treatment.

Genetic epidemiology is one of the major priority areas of the
Institute's research. As part of an expansion of the Institute's
Faculty, applications are invited for a new team leader post to develop
and pursue a research programme in genetic epidemiology of cancer.

The post will be within the Section of Epidemiology, and with close
ties to the Section of Cancer Genetics and other laboratory scientists
in the Institute. An honorary NHS contract will be sought if
applicable. The post will be for six years in the first instance,
leading to tenure subject to performance. Additional staff posts, PhD
studentships and start-up grants may be provided for a suitable
candidate.

Existing research within the Sections of Epidemiology and Cancer
Genetics covers a wide range of cancers and methodological approaches,
with many large-scale studies gathering epidemiological data and
biological samples, giving the applicant a great opportunity for
collaborative work. The applicant will also be expected to initiate
their own research. The Section of Epidemiology will move shortly into
purpose-built new accommodation with extensive well-provisioned space
for staff and for archiving of paper records and large-scale storage of
blood samples. The Section and Institute provide a supportive,
well-resourced and internationally competitive research environment.

Informal enquires would be welcomed, and should be addressed to Prof
Anthony Swerdlow, Chair of the Section of Epidemiology, tel 0208 722
4192.

To apply, please send two copies of a research plan (up to 4 pages), CV
and the names and contact details of three referees, to the Human
Resources Office, The Institute of Cancer Research, 123 Old Brompton
Road, London, SW7 3RP, quoting the relevant reference.
