Have any of you data or references to hand you could share on the effects of renal failure on modern immunoassays and in particular free thyroid hormones? I am thinking either assay interference or in the case of thyroid hormones, physiological effects (in addition to sick euthyroid syndrome).  I have a reference to possible uncontrolled alpha subunit release in CRF but it dates from 1993 and am sending for a hard copy. If a true finding, presumably that could affect the pituitary-thyroid axis.
