Thanks - it's always useful to see what is around and collect good practice.
It probably helps also that some of these guidelines are produced for
particular audiences. Liked the useful references in the TechDis and NDT
guidelines and the checklists.
I hope you won't be too concerned to hear that the Disabled People's Network
which I am involved with, also produced a "Guide to Accessible Meetings and
Events", which we wrote for the Community Network 2 - 3 years ago, as we
kept coming to meetings which were not organised in an accessible way.
We have structured it so there are checklists as well as detailed
information about what to consider and do before a meeting, during a meeting
and after a meeting, with info about specific requirements forms and
terminology, as well as the usual access, registration, presentations and
other issues.
We also produced a policy for the Community Network based on these
guidelines. Some of the contact details have been updated in other versions,
but I am waiting for some additional information and it hasn't been sent up
to the website yet. If anyone would like a more recent version, please email
me.

For information the Disability Rights Commission also have a publication
'Organising Accessible Events', which provides none specific national
guidance. (Check their website www.drc-gb.org)
I'm getting concerned at the amount of guidance becoming available on same
or similar subjects, let's keep our fingers crossed recommendations are the
same!

Accessible Events is a new, easy-to-use guide for event organisers which
will support the planning, organising, publicising and running of events.
The quick reference information is designed to support you in meeting your
obligations under Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act as it
highlights how events, and associated documents, can be designed to be
accessible and include disabled people.
The advice is accompanied by practical checklists which can be easily
customised. You will also find references to more in depth information
about accessibility issues in the 'Signposting' sections of the guide.
This 'must have' guide can be accessed via the Resource Directory on the NDT
web site and from the Higher Education section of the TechDis web site.
Accessible Events is available in Word and PDF formats.
The NDT and TechDis websites are dynamic and user-friendly. They offer a
wide range of resources and information about disability issues in post 16
education.
