Subject: Tsunami rebuilding organisations East Asia

Dear Colleagues,

In the massive rehabilitation process after Tsunami, it is likely that most  plans and interventions will be centrally planned and coordinated and is unlikely to  include the  community  inputs and long term disaster risk reduction  aspects.

ITDG and partners of the Duryog Nivaran network in South Asia would like to share their knowledge and experience in disaster mitigation and briefs on good practices (some already available), community engagement in the rehabilitation plans, low cost and appropriate designs for housing, local risk, hazard, vulnerability, capacity assessments; and information on the approaches we are promoting such as community centred, integrated with development, gender sensitive etc,  to  share with the  key organisations and networks in the relevant countries.

We are especially looking for organisations/ networks from East Asia- Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia- who are actively involved in the reconstruction phase of the Tsunami to share with them the experience of ITDG in working with disaster reconstruction and the need to look at the process in a holistic manner.

Looking forward to some contacts and suggestions.

Madhavi Ariyabandu

ITDG-South Asia
