I have always found the RLOs to be overworked but enthusiastic when it comes
to helping out.
I will need an RLO again, because I did not charter first time round. I
needed to know who the RLO was because I wasn't sure if it was still the
same person.

Your post raises a very interesting point though. If the RLOs are going to
have an increasing role in the new framework of qualifications, perhaps
CILIP will have to consider making it a waged post. The RLO network is very
slender, based on goodwill, but perhaps it is something that needs to be run
by dedicated officers, not volunteers. I am not detracting from the good
work done by the volunteers, but as your post suggests, sometimes the work
of the RLO spills over into a large chunk of your personal life (which you
are entitled to) and your working life. As the framework is rolled out, how
much more time can voluntary RLO's realistically give before they disappear
under a mountain of paperwork and stress?

BTW, can I just clarify, when I say dedicated officers, I mean someone who
is appointed and paid to do the RLO post! I think it is an issue CILIP
needs to think about seriously. Obviously, there should be some recognition
for the current RLOs too (eg: automatic upgrade to fellows of CILIP).
