Last month a detailed report of the key findings of Royal College of
Nursing's survey of the Information Needs of Nurses, Health Care
Assistants, Midwives and Health Visitors was published. The survey had
two principle aims:

1. To review what information or knowledge is needed to improve practice
in the clinical area

2. To establish information needs to support lifelong learning and
formal study.

The good response from registered nurses and other health care
professionals ensured results to be both comprehensive and exciting. The
report summarising respondent's needs concluded:

There was a high demand for information skills training

There was a high demand for value added services to help nurses find up
to date, good quality, relevant evidence in manageable amounts

Respondents want a blended service - physical as well as electronic,
access to experts as well as online

There was a need to work with health librarians across UK</place
/></country-region /> to develop high quality information services for
nurses

Following this feedback, the RCN plans to examine ways of meeting the
needs identified in the survey.
