The DDA 2005 - Public Sector Duty, Tuesday 28 June 2005.
London Voluntary Sector Resource Centre

This event will explain the new specific duties under the latest legislation
on disability discrimination including responsibilities of Higher Education
Institutions in England and Wales, FE colleges and funding bodies,
inspectorates and other statutory agencies related to education who will be
required to have disability equality schemes in place by December 2006.
The new duties are an organisational responsibility and require a different
focus from currrent arrangments for individual disabled students or staff.
Therefore, the conference will benefit staff across all sectors including
senior managers and administrators, heads of schools and designated
disability representatives in schools and faculties, registrars, estates
managers, student services managers, learning and teaching subject network
members, management information specialists, course and programme planners,
staff responsible for validation all of whom will have a part to play in the
organisational responsibilities under the Public Sector Duty.
The day will cover an explanation of the legislation, including how the
changing definition of disability will affect your duties, how to involve
disabled learners in producing the schemes, impact assessments, collecting
appropriate data and monitoring and identifying change.
