Dear Phyllis

Sam Riches '"Hyr wombe insaciate": The iconography of the feminised monster'
in Studies on Medieval and Early Modern Women: Pawns or Players, ed.
Christine Meek and Catherine Lawless (Dublin: Four Courts Press, 2003,
pp.177-196, is an excellent article on attitudes to the monstrous in the
middle ages, with a good bibliography. I happened to looking at it for a
class tomorrow when your email came in!

Best wishes
Catherine

Colleagues:

To bother you with one more question: A student of mine is working on
an honors thesis that involves medieval attitudes toward monstrous
and subhuman races, and is currently looking for evidence of the
later medieval scholarly/clerical view on the subject (broadening her
search from the starting point of medieval Alexander romances). Can
anyone recommend any books/articles on the subject? Preferably in
English, but she can get through some German.

Thanks,
Phyllis
