medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

From: "Kleinbauer, W. Eugene" <[log in to unmask]>

> Churches housing relics are called martyria in early Christian
architecture. Other churches such as cathedrals in the early Christian
period did not possess relics.

there were not even smaller relics, in altars, say?

was this due to the Roman practice (law?) forbidding burials within the walls
of cities?
