As I mentioned previously - the automakers are challenging Calif.'s groundbreaking global warming legislation. Ironically - they have filed their lawsuit in federal court in the city with some of the worst air pollution in the US - In Fresno, Ca. http://nytimes.com/2004/12/08/business/08auto.html?hp&ex=1102568400&en=0a32003f26c21446&ei=5094&partner=homepage One interesting comment the article mentions: "Other states have the discretion to choose California's air rules over those of Washington, and seven Northeastern states, including New York, do so. Under the new regulation, a fifth of the nation's auto market could have far stricter efficiency rules than the rest of the country." It will be interesting to see if the Federal Attorney General comes down on the side of the automakers. The Feds could just stay out of it. -robin tokmakian
