Ph.D. research assistantship positions available in Thermochronology and
Tectonics at the University of Kansas

For the academic year 2005-2006, the (U-Th)/He thermochronology research
group at the University of Kansas is seeking motivated Ph.D. students in
the fields of thermochronology and tectonics. Current funding for research
assistantships is available for the following projects:

(1) Erosional exhumation of the Colorado Plateau; a funded project
integrating (U-Th)/He thermochronometry and quantitative landscape
evolution in collaboration with NM Tech, UNM, and Utah State.

(2) Tertiary rift tectonics and exhumation of the Red Sea margin in Saudi
Arabia. Multiple projects combining structural geology, sedimentology,
geomorphology, and geo- and thermochronology in collaboration with the
Saudi Geological Survey and University of Pennsylvania.

(3) Development and calibration of rutile (U-Th)/He thermochronometry and
its application to high-pressure metamorphic rocks.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic students with a strong
quantitative background. All applications will be considered, but
preference will most likely be given those students who have completed a
M.S. and/or have hands-on experience in thermochronology or noble gas
geochemistry. Feel free to forward this message to anybody who might be
interested.
