Norman, I am just trying to verify that the classic build actually went all the way through from make world. It finished on xdisplay without an error and make bombing out. I saw some warnings about missing files along the way though. I've no idea. The build order is up to make, as long as it satisfies all the dependencies. If there's nothing that depends on xdisplay, and _if_ make ends up trying to satisfy the $(ALL_TARGETS) in alphabetical order, then it might well be, but there's no way of guaranteeing it, I don't think. Also it could vary from platform to platform, or even in principle from run to run, though that's probably unlikely. Why does this matter? If there's some particular effect you're aiming for I might be able to help in the Makefile.dependencies that's generated.
