Dear colleagues, I have been asked to help with the dispersal of the library of the late Professor George Gillespie. As some of you will remember, George was a person of many interests. The centre of his collection is naturally in medieval studies, where he had probably amassed copies of most major editions in the heroic literature and a great deal in Minnesang, together with most of the important German publications and more or less all British publications in the field up to his retirement in 1984 and beyond. However, there are also many books of Goethezeit, nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature, general cultural studies, art, some militaria, and items connected with the history of Coburg. If you would like me to look out for any particular authors or particular types of book in German or concerned with the Germanophone world, or if you have indeed particular Wunschlisten, I should be glad to hear from you. I think the great majority of George's books can be sent you for the cost of postage or a very little more. Feel free, of course, to bring this to the attention of Germanists not on our list, librarians, booksellers and anyone who might give a German book a good home. George also of course left many interesting English-language books, some going back to the eighteenth century, also numbers of early Penguins and the like, and if anyone is seriously excited by this, I can put you in touch with his son who is dealing with the Anglophone side more particularly.
